Police Peace PDX's annual Police Forum returns to Portland on May 3, 2018. The community dialogue and strategy session will be held for its third consecutive year when it is held at the First Unitarian Church from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Exciting changes to the program follow in a number of ways. First, PPPDX is excited to partner with Youth Educating Police, a local nonprofit solely working to adress growing divides between the two communities and uplifting youth voice and decision. Second, the forum is emboldened by the success of past panel discussions, but also cognizant of the need for more explicit action steps. These concerns have been addressed twofold. Structurally, the panel has been reduced slightly in its length, and this will allow for interactive workshop time, where student and adult facilitators will guide participants in a debrief of the subjects discussed in the Panel, and work through real life examples of such issues. Finally, to supplement the growing need for individualized action on this topic, and backing off the workshop time, PPPDX will disseminate an action guide that participants can reflect on as needed, and pass on to friends and family. The panel will feature 6 voices (Aaliyah Joseph, Robert Day, James Crooker, and TBA) from different perspectives on the issue. The panel is youth run and moderated. Space is limited so please RSVP if you are interested using this link or reach out with questions to admin@youtheducatingpolice.org
